LA Guns – 06/25/2022

Back in college there were two albums that came out my sophomore year that got played the most.  LA Guns and Appetite for Destruction were always on the tape deck.  You could smell the booze, cheap perfume and leather emitting from those speakers and that wasn’t our apartment.  Both bands nailed the debauchery of the Sunset Strip during those times and the take no prisoners rebellion of the late 80’s.  LA Guns along with Faster Pussycat and the Tom Keifer band came to Warehouse Live in Houston for a rousing night.

After all these years I had never actually seen LA Guns.  I’ve seen GnR multiple times but never this outfit so I was curious to see if they could bring it.  Eddie Trunk introduced them and was very supportive of Tracii probably due to his recent anxiety issues.  We were pleased to see Tracii and company hit the stage confidently and right into those songs from that very first album.  Songs like Electric Gypsy and Sex Action were definite highlights.  Tracii was great but what was the most impressive was Phil Lewis.  Phil’s been singing for decades and still sounds impressive.  He nailed The Ballad of Jayne as well as the others and is proof that sometimes age is just a number.
