Tool Concert: 11/27/2019

For a band to reach #1 status in the US especially these days in the rock category is a momentous achievement. To have done this feat after more than a decade without a new album is absolutely stunning. Tool’s latest, Fear Inoculum is a brilliant return to form that has satiated their huge fanbase once more followed by a sold-out tour.

We saw this show at the Toyota Center in Houston expecting something great. It’s rare that any band can live up to their past glories and reputation but Tool did just that. Visually enthralling as well as sonically powerful, the bands sound mix was one of the best we’ve ever heard in more than 30 years of attending concerts. They opened with the title track behind a translucent curtain. Favorites like Forty Six & 2 and Stinkfist ignited the crowd as well as a very cool and original drum solo from Danny Carey during Chocolate Chip Trip. He even hit a gong…

Maynard teased the crowd about the Astros score and the band in all were in top form which is rare for an early tour show.
