Garbage – 05/25/2022

At first glance the coupling of Tears for Fears and Garbage doesn’t work on paper.  Angst 90’s and 80’s synth pop seem like an unlikely match but it actually works.  As an opener, Garbage brings a hushed intensity to the proceedings and the energy that’s required to successfully kick off the proceedings.  Shirley Manson is a force of nature and others in her band like Butch Vig and of course Eric Avery from Janes Addiction are no slouches.

Much like Tears for Fears, Garbage doesn’t rest on their laurels and catalogue and instead begin with a handful of new tunes. They also included Stupid Girl surprising many early in the set.  Another crowd favorite and particularly interesting combo was including Depeche Mode’s Personal Jesus in their Wicked Ways rendition.  A final highlight was also the James Bond theme The World is not Enough.

Overall a great opener and a reminder of how effective this band can be when viewed live.
