After 3 days of rain in Florida the clouds parted with blue skies and the sun drenched the eager audience at Rockville. An early set by England’s The Struts was a perfect way to get the day started for the final and fourth day on Sunday at the festival. It was obvious early on in their set that this band was the real deal and that they came to impress. Having little knowledge of their material it was unique to experience them live.
The band is comprised of Adam Slack on guitar, Gethin Davies on drums, bassist Jed Elliott and lead vocalist and master of ceremonies Luke Spiller. They quickly got the crowd into it after a rousing Primadonna Like Me as the opener and Body Talks. It was during the latter that Spiller got the crowd’s participation to not only sing along but bend over and jump several times. His command over thousands was impressive. Elliott and Davies are rock solid throughout and while Slack doesn’t do anything wild in soloing he plays tastefully interspersing smart solos and creative rhythms.
Their music rocks. It’s danceable and it grooves. They combine British aesthetics to old school rock and glam. Both men and women can appreciate this flavor of rock n roll which is a bit unique these days with genre splitting trends. Highly recommend anyone reading this to catch these guys when they tour next.
